The Mentorship Infrastructure

The HMI Mentorship System

The strength of HMI is not in what is said. It is in how mentorship is structured, delivered, and sustained. A five-layer system designed to ensure every student-athlete is guided consistently, developed intentionally, and held accountable systematically.

Leadership Is Developed Through Structured Mentorship - Not Occasional Interaction

Most programs offer inspiration. HMI offers infrastructure. The difference is not in the quality of the message - it is in the consistency of the system that delivers it. Every layer of the HMI mentorship model is designed to ensure that development is not dependent on a single great mentor or a single great session. It is built into the structure itself.

01Central Leadership Delivery System

The Foundation Every Athlete Receives

At the core of HMI is a centralized leadership model led by Dr. Gregory Haughton. Weekly live sessions are delivered to all mentees, providing standardized leadership principles, consistent frameworks, and unified messaging across every institution. This ensures alignment, quality control, and that every athlete receives the same high-level leadership foundation regardless of where they compete.

What This Layer Delivers

  • Weekly live sessions delivered to all mentees by Dr. Haughton
  • Standardized leadership principles and frameworks across all institutions
  • Consistent messaging that ensures alignment and quality control
  • Every athlete receives the same high-level leadership foundation
02Distributed Mentor Network

Scale with Structure

HMI operates through a trained network of mentors who extend the system beyond the central delivery. Each mentor is carefully selected and vetted, trained in the HMI mentorship methodology, provided with structured weekly protocols, and held accountable for delivery and outcomes. Mentors are not left to improvise. They operate within a defined system that ensures consistency and effectiveness, at every institution, in every cohort.

What This Layer Delivers

  • Carefully selected and vetted mentors with relevant professional experience
  • Trained in the HMI mentorship methodology before deployment
  • Provided with structured weekly protocols and session guides
  • Accountable for delivery quality and measurable outcomes
03Small Group Mentoring

Where Transformation Happens

After central sessions, student-athletes transition into structured breakout groups led by their dedicated mentor. This is where concepts are applied, conversations become personal, accountability is reinforced, and behavior begins to change. Each session includes guided discussion, reflection prompts, real-life application, and peer accountability. This is where leadership moves from theory to behavior, and where the mentor relationship becomes transformational.

What This Layer Delivers

  • Structured breakout groups of 15 student-athletes per mentor
  • Guided discussion, reflection prompts, and real-life application
  • Peer accountability built into every session structure
  • The environment where concepts become consistent behaviors
04One-on-One Mentorship

Precision Development for High-Impact Growth

High-impact development requires individual attention. HMI includes targeted one-on-one mentorship for high-need student-athletes, leadership-track individuals, and athletes facing performance or personal challenges. This layer allows for personalized guidance, behavioral correction, goal alignment, and the deeper trust and accountability that group settings cannot replicate. This is where the most significant individual transformations occur.

What This Layer Delivers

  • Targeted one-on-one sessions for high-need and leadership-track athletes
  • Personalized guidance tailored to individual behavioral patterns and goals
  • Behavioral correction and goal alignment with direct mentor accountability
  • Deeper trust and relationship depth that accelerates individual growth
05Structured Curriculum with Mentor-Led Execution

Intentional Development - Every Week

Every session is guided by a structured leadership curriculum focused on discipline and consistency, accountability and ownership, emotional intelligence and self-control, decision-making under pressure, and identity and purpose beyond sport. Each session is pre-structured, mentor-guided, and outcome-driven. This removes randomness and ensures development is intentional - not left to the quality of any single mentor's improvisation.

What This Layer Delivers

  • Curriculum focused on discipline, accountability, emotional intelligence, and decision-making
  • Identity and purpose beyond sport addressed directly and consistently
  • Every session pre-structured, mentor-guided, and outcome-driven
  • Randomness eliminated — development is intentional every week
